Emily Winfield Martin, who created "Black Apple" (a name which she sells her art under), makes paintings, books, and other things. She is the author and illustrator of a paper doll epic called "The Black Apple's Paper Doll Primer" and illustrated "Oddfellow's Orphanage" for Random House. Martin's work is inspired by vintage clothes, fairy tales, and carnivals...so I thought it was a great pick for Carnival week's inspiration piece! Check out her website.
