Medieval Monster

We're super thrilled to welcome illustration superstar Lydia Nichols to the mix - She had the great task of going to final on a sketch from Owen Davey and she scored big with her beautiful finished piece! More about Lydia below.

After the past four years in Brooklyn, Lydia has made the leap back into academia and relocated to Philadelphia where she'll pursue an MFA at Tyler School of Art. She already laments the lack of decent pizza, but welcomes the influx of cheesesteak mongers. In 2007, she earned her BFA in Illustration at Syracuse University. Her work strives to be narrative while remaining concise and simple. Folk art, street art, pop art, mid-century design, and printmaking are her strongest influences. Trollin'

This week we're thrilled to have not one, but two amazing new contributors to the blog - the first being the super talented Owen Davey. Owen was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to bring Kyle Fewell's troll sketch to life! More about Owen below.

Owen is a UK-based illustrator currently living and working in Bristol. He graduated in 2009 from University College Falmouth with a degree in illustration and now works for clients like The Guardian, New York Times, Scholastic, and Templar Publishing. Owen is inspired by trees, swimming, patterns, early 20th century packaging - and of course the smell of freshly baked bread. You can check out more of Owen's work on this website, blog, and shop.

Space Invaders

Michelle Romo and Tyler Parker teamed up again for a second swap - this time Michelle went to final on Tyler's sketch for an out of this work end product!

Both Cute and Scary

I'm not sure what's going on here - but it appears to be gruesome. At the same time though - how ADORABLE are those monsters? I'm just not sure how to feel. Either way second time contributor Tyler Parker did a great job interpreting the sketch we gave him from Michelle Romo!

Zillion time contributor Kyle Fewell hit another home run (yay, baseball references) with his final piece based on a sketch by Lydia Nichols. Who knew monsters were just as unenthusiastic about their day jobs as everyone else?

Floss Monster

If you ask me, this is one of the scariest monsters in the bunch. Paul Windle got flossy-flossy with a sketch from Cam Floyd for this hygienic final.

Ghost Cube

Who's that ghost? Why is he in a cube? All of these questions were answered by Jesse Riggle (except not at all) when he went to final on a sketch by Michael Clayton. Jesse was so hell bent on solving this mystery that he made not one, but two final pieces for this swap? Which is your favorite?

A Lesson in History

This totally happened. Final piece by the amazing Rachel Dougherty painted from a sketch by Paul "can't stop drawing dinosaurs" Windle. Rad!

Nessie

Michael Clayton took on the sketch of Rachel Dougherty to capture the prehistoric beast Nessie - it's common knowledge that Nessie likes to break out the bagpipes from time to time and cruise around the Loch with a tiny dude on her back.

Neon Monster

This week second time contributor Cam Floyd took on the sketch of Jesse Riggle for this brightly wrinkled beast.
